listen to my works and despair

Which is my way of saying that my NaSoAlMo record is done.

I am waffling between a few titles, but all the music is done.

Please enjoy this photo of a papier-maché sculpture of Conan O'Brien's head, which I saw in Red Hook yesterday.

adventures in gustation, volume one

I bought some romanescos for dinner tonight. Of course, since they are so cool looking, I had to photograph them first. For a first attempt at shooting food with a light setup, I think I did a pretty good job, though next time I will use some umbrellas or diffusers.

I experimented with a different way of prep (you are supposed to cook them like you do cauliflower; I was not in the mood to roast them or drench them in cheese) and boy was it good.

I used butter (real butter), garlic, cracked black pepper, a dash of lemon juice, and some hot capicola.

Do not be scared of their fractal-y alien looks. They taste freakin' incredible.

12 strings of pain

Took out the 12 string today, just to see if it can do what I want it to do. I am hoping to fall in love with it again, so I can think of a reason why I shouldn't sell it.

I am considering covering a Will Oldham song, mostly because my own feelings on the subject of loss lately have been veering into the "Joe Lies" territory - and if you get the reference you know exactly why being in that territory is not a good place to be in - but isn't it completely trite and predictable to use Will as a crutch? I don't think I can answer that yet.

samurai photographer goes solo, redux.

Yeah, I'm gonna do another solo album. All my albums are solo albums anyhow. It seems like a good time to do it anyhow, since my laptop crashed and burned two weeks ago. I just got it back today, and am in the process of re-loading all my sound toys.

Expect guitar, bass, some singing (not by me) and lots of rain and construction sounds. Right now I think I'm going to call it "L'espace de mauvais voisine" but I am positive that is horribly incorrect French, so whatever the proper linguistics for that sentiment are, that will probably be the name of the album.

It's sort of like my Brooklyn Bridge, and I'm Washington Roebling. If you know that story, you know what I'm talking about.
