Today is the Greek Orthodox Good Friday, which means that there is a processional down 31st avenue.

Every year I come home from the darkroom on this night and end up smack dab in the middle of it. I am usually without a camera, but not this year.

I have posted some photographic evidence.

Comments welcome.

samurai photographer gets kissed by an angel

Though I have lived roughly 40 minutes away from it all my life, I had never, until several weeks ago, spent any time at all in Newark, New Jersey.

Perhaps it was provinciality.

More likely it was because I never really had a reason to go there.

Now I have several.

Newark is filled with lots of buildings that I absolutely must photograph. There's a lot of good art there, and many ghost signs.

Apparently, the author of this graffiti at left also writes "GOD KNOWS MY NAME" as well. I will find out for sure.

"REST IN PEACE MY NIGGA THE POPE!"

I couldn't believe my eyes. I tried to think of a snappy comment for this, but I think you can concoct your own.

Thanks to Cori and Josh for alerting me to this "only in New York" tagging.
